I bought an Anteres AVP-1 vocal processor. Probably its main claim to fame is the "Cher" effect of that do you believe in life after love song, also featured in that other irritating yet catchy song, Blue. The effect is the result of real-time pitch correction gone horribly wrong on purpose.
The AVP-1 is supposed to handle live pitch correction. It works, but when it does I swear I can hear that wonky Cher sound. Sometimes it's just better to be off pitch. Fortunately it also has some other sweet features, like a decent compressor, gate, de-esser, two EQs, a nice vocal doubler, and some interesting (though I'm not sold yet) microphone modeling settings. I haven't used it yet in any recordings but I've been screwing around with it for two weeks now. I'll definitely be posting some podcasts during the winter break.
